Dan Woog, a beloved local writer who writes for The Westport News and has his own blog "06880", wrote an amazing article about our club. He writes: "Neighbors and Newcomers is one of those organizations that flies under the radar, but impacts lives".
This group was my saving grace when I moved to Westport 9 years ago! Coming as a single woman from NYC who knew about one person, I made so many good friends and formed one of my social circles in this group. Fast forward to present day, I am now married with two beautiful daughters and I continue to enjoy the many social events, groups and friendships that NNW continues to provide for me and my family. Between playgroups, movie nights, girls night out and the dinner and wine events, I always have a full social calendar. I love this group and am so thankful for all it has given to me over the last (almost) decade!
If you enjoy meeting new people and filling your calendar with fun activities, NNW is for you. When my husband and I with our three young children moved to Westport from NYC we did not know anyone in town. We joined NNW and have been members ever since. We made many friends and continue to make new ones. Our kids are now grown which means we have more free time to enjoy the many activities offered.
As a club, we work on making new members feel welcomed and are open to new ideas and activities. Some of my favorite activities are: TGIF, Girls Night Out, Book Club and kayaking in the summer.
I moved to Westport 4 years ago and didn't know a soul. My kids were all high school age and I wasn't meeting anyone through them. I read about Neighbors and Newcomers on the town website and sent in my application. I went to the Welcome Back Coffee and it changed my entire Westport experience. The ladies at the coffee were so warm and welcoming. They had all been in the same boat and made me feel right at home. I started going to events, then organized a few, took on the newsletter, became Vice President and now am in my second year as President. I do it all for the great friends I continue to make and out of gratitude to a club that continues to make me feel welcome. I know I have made friends for life.
Thanks to everyone for making the 9 years that I have been in Westport wonderful. Three weeks after my arrival, I attended a NNW Luncheon Club, and that was the beginning of many years of fun and friendships. I never would have imagined that I would be so busy and meet so many great women at this stage of my life.
For those of you old timers, believe it or not, the terrarium... I made for the “homefront” activity is still alive and kicking. We are taking it with us to Arizona as a remembrance of great friends.
To all you newer members of NNW, make the most of the group by becoming involved. The friendships you form will be forever
